Camino de Despedida

by Bradley Budinger | Morongo Valley, CA

I wrote this toast in my apartment at Casa Celsa-Barbantes for a farewell dinner at the Teberna Montes in Santiago de Compostela. It would be the last time our group of “camigos” would gather before departing to our other commitments.

Away from home with our
     comforts on our backs,
We walked the Camino
     either slow or fast.
Around the corner we may find
     another friend to share the time.
We walk in sun, we walk in frost,
     and pray to God we are not lost.
Santiago is the end of the trail;
     we say goodbye, we say farewell.
We’ll keep in touch as best we can,
     but tonight we salute the times at hand.
