Slow Is Beautiful Charles Limbach winter '25 la concha.
A snail’s shell offers metaphors for the pilgrim journey—carrying all that is needed upon one’s back; finding beauty in slowness; spiraling inward toward a destination, and then back outward on a return journey home as we unwind from Camino time. Photo by Charles Limbach.

Unwind Camino Time

by Robert Bain | Houston, TX

Song lyrics written to the tune of “Gentle on My Mind” by Glen Campbell. YouTube audio of Campbell’s song here.

Stowed backpack. Fastened seat belt.
Needing rest on my return.
Flight time to be calm.
Think about what I’ve learned.

9 hours to ponder a 33 day walk,
solo pilgrim carefree and off the clock.
So many thoughts come to mind
friends and places to fill pages over time.

Final destination
Slowing my mind as images unravel.
The comfort of my bed and concluding travel.

Receiving hugs and kisses first priority.
Unwind from Camino time enjoying my family.

Camino friends share what went right and wrong
Discussing thoughts with new ideas
how they would prevail.

Talk of next time, some plan others decline
“Home is where our Hearts are” as we roam we return spiritually grown.
