Chapter sello

As a chapter of the American Pilgrims, our mission is to foster the enduring tradition of the Camino

  • by supporting the Camino’s infrastructure,
  • by gathering Camino pilgrims together, and
  • by providing information and encouragement to past and future pilgrims.

Our Chapter furthers this mission in a number of ways, including:

  • bi-monthly informational gatherings;
  • bi-monthly hikes;
  • social events (including Camino café coffee gatherings and potlucks);
  • mentoring for those who will be walking the Camino;
  • shell ceremonies for departing pilgrims and recognition of returning pilgrims;
  • networking with other past and future pilgrims;
  • publishing a monthly newsletter;
  • maintaining a Facebook group; and
  • maintaining a lending library of Camino resources.

Meetings

Our bi-monthly chapter meetings are held at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church (4921 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609), at 7:00pm on the third Monday evening of January, March, May, July, September and November. Chapter hikes in and beyond the Raleigh area are offered on the third Saturday morning of February, April, June, August and October.

Chapter meetings and events are open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Camino or is planning to walk the Camino, regardless of whether you choose to become a member of American Pilgrims (although we of course heartily recommend doing that!)

To learn more about the Chapter and upcoming Chapter events, we welcome you to sign up for our monthly newsletter and visit our chapter website.

If you have questions or need more information, please email chapter coordinators Robert Dermody, John Saxon, Mac Schafer, Melanie Byrne Thomas, Shelly Duffy, Michele Slater and Cynthia Gwynn at Raleigh@americanpilgrims.org.

Become a Member

You don't need to be a member to participate in chapter activities. However, we'd love to have you! Our members aid our mission to support Camino infrastructure, gather pilgrims and provide information about the Camino. Becoming a member it's a great way to connect with your fellow pilgrims, qualify for Hospitalero training, contribute to our La Concha publication, and attend exclusive members-only events.

Keen to Learn More About the Camino?

Consider joining our Facebook group for great dialogue, Q&A, photos and a running commentary about the Camino from like-minded pilgrims.

We also have a ton of pilgrimage planning resources like; a packing list, planning 101, what to expect while there, route overviews, and suggested apps and guidebooks.

And when you are preparing to go, you can even order your pilgrim credential from us. It's free, but we would appreciate a donation.

And for some inspiration, check out our La Concha web magazine. It includes updates from American Pilgrims, notes from field volunteers, pilgrim stories, poetry, art and book/film reviews.
