The Jacksonville Chapter is dedicated to connecting Pilgrims in the Northern Florida area to each other and with those interested in learning more about the Camino de Santiago. The Chapter provides opportunities to hike, gather socially, share experiences, learn about national organization opportunities, and prepare for upcoming journeys.

Connect With Us

Whether you are a veteran of the Camino, planning your first Camino, or interested in connecting with others to learn more, there are several ways to engage with our local Jacksonville Chapter of the American Pilgrims on Camino community:

  • Hikes: Join the Chapter for scheduled hikes to build stamina and meet experienced Pilgrims in a relaxed setting. These scheduled hikes occur about one time per month (exceptions are July and August) and members may post pop-up hikes through the Facebook page, inviting others to join.
  • Presentations: We support events that dive into the logistics of different routes and the pilgrim experience - most are held through area REI locations.
  • Facebook Community: Follow the Jacksonville Chapter - American Pilgrims on the Camino Facebook group for real-time updates, news, and event photos.  Questions are answered by Coordinators and members of the Community.
  • Chapter Coordinators and Newsletter: The Chapter events, resources and newsletter are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers that are Chapter Coordinators. For specific questions or to be added to the newsletter list, you can contact us through email at:  jacksonville@americanpilgrims.org

Informal Mentoring

We encourage anyone curious about the Camino to join us for hikes, social gatherings, or presentations. These events are the perfect opportunity to receive informal mentoring from our chapter coordinators and experienced Pilgrims who have walked a Camino. Their firsthand knowledge can help guide you on everything from gear selection to route planning.

Chapter Gatherings

Beyond our physical activities, we host regular informal social gatherings where members can connect over shared meals, coffee, or drinks; including an annual picnic and Shell Ceremony. These meetings are a chance to socialize, discuss Camino lore, trade travel tips, and celebrate the shared bond of the Pilgrim journey.  Learn about events on our Facebook page or through the monthly newsletter.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our chapter thrives on the generosity of our members. There are no dues to join the local Chapter, but we are always looking for volunteers to help coordinate, support or lead hikes, help with special events like the annual picnic, and support members in our Facebook community. Volunteering is a rewarding way to deepen your involvement in the Camino community.  Please contact our Coordinators through the email address listed if you are interested in leading a hike or have an interest in volunteering.

Current Chapter Coordinators are Susan Peacock, Paul McPhaul, Pamm Eutsler, and Janet Calhoun.

Become a Member

You don't need to be a member to participate in chapter activities. However, we'd love to have you! Our members aid our mission to support Camino infrastructure, gather pilgrims and provide information about the Camino. Becoming a member it's a great way to connect with your fellow pilgrims, qualify for Hospitalero training, contribute to our La Concha publication, and attend exclusive members-only events.

Keen to Learn More About the Camino?

Consider joining our Facebook group for great dialogue, Q&A, photos and a running commentary about the Camino from like-minded pilgrims.

We also have a ton of pilgrimage planning resources like; a packing list, planning 101, what to expect while there, route overviews, and suggested apps and guidebooks.

And when you are preparing to go, you can even order your pilgrim credential from us. American Pilgrims members receive a free credential. Non-members may order a credential for a $5 donation.

And for some inspiration, check out La Concha, our quarterly magazine. It includes updates from American Pilgrims, notes from field volunteers, pilgrim stories, poetry, art and book/film reviews.
