Tucson, AZ: Old Pueblo Chapter, Sycamore Canyon Pilgrim Hike

I seem to be on a kick of introducing you to new hikes – so enough with a normal October saunter! We are going to give Mt. Lemmon another go – lower areas of Mt. Lemmon though. We will walk from Gordon Hirabayashi Campground into Sycamore Canyon. The out and back trail is 5.5 miles with about 950 ft. elevation change. If you haven’t walked this trail yet you are in for a real surprise and joy.
As always come prepared with sun protection, water, as well as any medicine/supplies you may require. A hardy snack is also a good idea – our mid point is in an oasis of a former dam – the cottonwood trees should be turning by then so it will be lovely indeed.

It takes about 20 minutes to get to the trailhead from central Tucson. The campground is approximately 12 miles up the Catalina Highway from Tanque Verde Rd – so not far at all.
