This 3rd hike in the series is the most difficult with the highest elevation gain (similar in gain to the walk out of Portomarin or from Pamplona to Alto de Perdon on the Camino Frances). This series provides an opportunity to walk 10+ miles back-to-back with or without their Camino gear and with the support of fellow pilgrims.
DISTANCE: 11.5 MILES MODERATE/DIFFICULT (1400 ft elevation gain)
This is an out & back hike. We will begin on the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead to Sunrise Trail where pilgrims will climb to the hitching post (approx 2.7 miles with 1100 ft of elevation gain) on the saddle. From the saddle we will join the Andrews-Kinsey trail for a trek down to the Adero Canyon Trailhead in Fountain Hills. We will stop for a restroom break, a snack (maybe even second breakfast if there is leftovers from the Shell Ceremony), cool down by wetting any hats/shirts/buffs/hair and then we will head back the way we came. Andrews-Kinsey trail is a steady climb of 325 ft elevation gain over ~3 miles with some of the most unique geology (aka rocks) in the area. From the hitching post we will descend back to Lost Dog Wash Trailhead.
