Savage, MN: Minnesota Chapter, Murphy Hanrehan Reserve Training Hike
Weekends can be precious during Minnesota summers so we’re going to try something a little different – a weekday morning hike beginning at 9AM on Thursday, August 21. We recognize that this excludes those who work weekdays. Rest assured, we will continue to host hikes on the weekends.
Join us for this moderately challenging 6-7 mile hike on compact dirt trails through beautiful and hilly Murphy Hanrehan Park Reserve. While the total elevation gain is only about 600 feet, the regular up & down will give you a taste of what it’s like to hike in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Asturias or Cantabrian Mountains. This trail has pit latrines available every 3 miles.
There will be no drinking water available on the trail so please make sure that you bring water on this hike. And even if you’re not wearing a pack, walking sticks may prove helpful on the hills. There are picnic tables at the start/finish – consider packing a sandwich or snack for yourself to replenish at the end (you may leave it in your vehicle during the hike).
The hike will be led by Minnesota Chapter member, Alli Adrian. Alli is the Parks Wellness Programmer in the Three Rivers Park System in Scott County. Murphy Henrehan Park is in the Savage/Prior Lake area so please plan your drive accordingly.
For those working towards their Minnesota Camino Compostela, this hike will qualify for 11 kilometers.
Parking: Use google maps to navigate to the parking lot labeled Murphy Hanrehan Horse Camp, close to 9360 Sunset Lake Road, Prior Lake, MN 55372. Please call or text Alli at 612-322-5746 if you’re having trouble navigating.
We look forward to seeing you there!!
