Join us for a 6.5-mile moderate hike through Carmel Valley. Centrally located near Hwy 5 and the 56, this walk offers the best of all worlds: varied terrain, free parking, no crowds and minimal asphalt.
Date: Saturday, April 6 from 8am to 12pm
Location: Elizabeth Rabbitt Neighborhood Park, 6616-6628 Duck Pond Lane, San Diego, 92130.
Parking: There is a small parking lot at the park. If that is full, continue along Del Vino Court, turn right at the second stop sign (Rancho Toyon Pl) and park anywhere on that street.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available in the parking area.
Route description: The first mile of the walk takes us through a quiet neighborhood along a natural trail. We then head behind the houses and down a moderate hill into the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. From there, we’ll head west along the trails and then up onto Carmel Mountain Road toward our starting point.
Meeting time in the parking lot: 8am
Walk begins: 8:15am
Optional picnic lunch: Stay in the park after the hike and enjoy a bring-your-own picnic. Consider bringing a chair and/or picnic blanket as there are not two picnic tables next to each other.
