Rochester, NY: Finger Lakes Chapter – Lilac Festival Walk

May 23, 2021 11:00AM—2:00PM

Location

Where: Meet at Hermance Family Chapel of St. Basil the Great parking lot, St John Fisher Campus, 3690 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14618. After we gather, we'll drive half the cars to the starting point of the walk, which is the Interfaith Chapel at the University of Rochester (River Campus). It appears that we can park on the University of Rochester campus for free on a weekend, but we'll discuss backup options for parking in case we get to UR and run into a problem.

Come enjoy a beautiful 6.5-mile walk in Rochester from University of Rochester through Highland Park’s Lilac Festival and Mount Hope Cemetery to St John Fisher College. This hike will be led by Anne Downey.

Date: Sunday, May 23, 2021 (there is no rain date – it’s a rain or shine event).
When: 11:00 AM (see below regarding a 10:00 AM mass)

We’ll walk through the UR campus, past Mt. Hope Cemetery, and through Highland Park (enjoying the Lilac Festival). We’ll head along Highland Avenue past Cobb’s Hill Park, then down East Ave., past the Country Club of Rochester, back to St. John Fisher College. We’ll then drive everyone back to where the cars are parked at UR. After that you can go home, but if you have never visited Mt. Hope Cemetery (where Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass are buried), you might want to make a quick stop there on your way home.

Please bring a mask. We’ll need a mask if we end up going into any buildings, and because your fellow passengers may want masks while we travel in the cars.

Hope to see you there.

P.S. Anne will be attending the 10:00 AM mass at the Hermance Family Chapel on campus, next to Kearney Hall. If anyone else wants to attend, you must pre-register at https://www.sjfc.edu/student-life/campus-ministry/worship-times/ and bring a mask to wear during mass.
