Have you ever considered walking the Original Camino route?

Join the Valley of the Sun Chapter on May 16 as local pilgrims share their experiences on this difficult but beautiful route, extending 331 kilometers (205 miles) from Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela through the northwestern regions of Asturias and Galicia in Spain.

The Camino Primitivo (The Original Way) was the very first pilgrimage route. King Alfonso II, was the King of Asturias, Spain up until 842 CE. It was during his reign that the remains of St. James were discovered. The King travelled from Oviedo to Galicia to help the Catholic church determine the authenticity of the find. When the discovery was confirmed to be St. James, the King ordered the building of the original basilica in Santiago to store the apostles remains.
