Brazos Bend State Park Start Time 9am CST Park Address: 21901 FM 762 Needville, TX 77461 Meet at 40 Acre Lake Parking Lot The park is about a one-hour drive from downtown Houston. Take Highway 59 South to the Crabb River Road exit. You may also take State Highway 288 south to FM 1462 West. Follow FM 1462 to FM 762 North. All routes are marked with brown signs to guide you.

Brazos Bend State Park Hike & Remembrance Picnic

Join the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter in Brazos Bend State Park for a training hike.

Starting at 40 Acre Lake, we will piece together an 8.2  mile loop that includes Elm Lake, Horseshoe Lake Loop and Big Creek Loop. This is a 3.5 hour route, partly shaded, flat terrain, over trails of crushed gravel and hard-dirt. There are restrooms at the start and along the way where you can fill your water bottle.

Carry water, suntan lotion, bug spray and hat. Please, no dogs on Chapter hikes.

Wear the socks, shoes, poles, and pack that you plan to carry and see how they work for you. We will walk rain or shine–just like being on the Camino (except if dangerous conditions.)

Remembrance Picnic:  Annually, we gather to take a moment to remember chapter members who have passed away. During our hike, we will pause to say a prayer and scatter rose petals in their honor.  

At the end of the hike, near the parking lot, we will gather at the picnic tables.  If the weather cooperates, we hope to enjoy conversation and lunch together. 

You are welcome to bring simple food items to share.  Examples: mandarin oranges, brownies, carrot sticks.    Do bring yourself a picnic lunch and your drink of choice.  No alcohol in the State park. 

Brazos Bend State Park is about an hour south of downtown Houston. Click here for directions and a map from the Park website. Enter the Park and show your reserved day pass at Headquarters. Drive a short ways to the parking area at 40 Acre Lake.

The Park fills up quickly on the weekend. It is highly recommended that you reserve a day pass online. ($7 per car.)
