Event details: Perry Whitaker from The Alpine Shop will lead an Outdoor/Trail First-Aid class that is perfect for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago trails.
You know the old saying, “What can go wrong, will go wrong?” There’s another saying that is even more common on the Camino de Santiago, “The Camino Provides.” Be prepared to provide the needed care to yourself or fellow pilgrims along The Way by taking this outdoor first-aid class!
This course will provide the basics of first aid for outdoor activities including hiking, camping, paddling, cycling, climbing, and many other outdoor pursuits. This course does not lead to certification (although you could probably pass a standard first-aid test after taking this class).
What to bring:
A sense of humor
Pen and paper to take notes
What to expect: Perry makes his classes fun and covers a lot of material. Some of the material you won’t learn about in a standard first-aid class. He’ll talk about blisters, drunks, and snakes in addition to talking about bones, blood, scrapes, sprains, and other medical mumbo-jumbo.
There won’t be any tests, nor will you be required to perform mouth-to-mouth on any of the other participants.
Cost: The Alpine Shop charges a $5 fee to confirm registrations. The Alpine Shop will graciously donate registration fees collected for this night’s class to the American Pilgrims on the Camino to support the organization’s grants program to help improve Camino infrastructure.
