Join the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter in Huntsville State Park for a training hike!

This is a rain or shine, after all this is a training for the Camino!!! (In the event of dangerous weather such as lightning or flooding conditions, the hike will be canceled–watch for an email if canceled) This is a 6 to 7-mile loop hike, moderate terrain with some incline and some roots and rocky areas so wear good walking shoes and walking poles may come in handy. There are restrooms at the Nature Center where we start, but there are no accommodations on the trail. Take water & snacks for the couple of breaks we will take. Take a picnic lunch for enjoying with the group after the hike at the many picnic tables within the park.

It is highly recommended that you reserve a day pass online. Right now the park is wide open, but you never know with the three-day weekend.

From central Houston, Huntsville State Parke is a 1 hour and 20-minute car ride. For map and directions: https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/huntsville/map

Enter Park on Hwy 40. Go to Headquarters and show your reserved day pass. Drive short ways forward to meet at the Nature Center (first building on the right) where you will find plenty of parking spaces.

We plan on starting on the Chinquapin Loop trailhead promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Estimated hiking time is 3 to 4 hours.

Please no dogs on Chapter hikes.
