You can see a park map HERE.
PARKING: Park in the circular parking area (parking located at the bottom of the map labeled “parking areas”). Additional parking is available along the road to the circular parking area. Toilets are available in the parking area. No sticker is required.
HIKING: The average hike is approximately 2.1 miles and takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete, based on the main Lion’s Den Trail, a popular loop trail. The trail is considered easy, with a mix of boardwalks, gravel paths, and 60-70 stairs leading to the Lake Michigan shoreline (optional but highly encouraged, as the beach area is so nice, and we can hike for a bit along the lake shore). The duration can vary depending on pace, stops for views, or detours to the beach via the staircase, which adds about 100 steps each way. For a shorter hike, intermediate bypasses can reduce the distance, while exploring additional trails in the 73-acre park.
TAPAS TIME: There are two picnic tables located at the area labeled “Lake Vista” which has a lovely view of Lake Michigan from the bluffs. The two table likely won’t seat everyone, so please bring a foldable lawn or camping chair. It’s maybe a 5 minute walk from the circular parking to the Lake Vista picnic tables.
WHAT TO BRING: Tapas or drinks to share, a folding chair, and a donativo if you wish to take home a Chapter Patch for your pack.
