Fort Collins CO: Colorado Frnt Rng Chapter, NOCO New Years hike at Towers Trail

Start the new year off strong with this NOCO hike with fantastic views of Horsetooth Reservoir, hogbacks (geological uplifts) that used to be the beachfront of the Inland Sea, and the Horsetooth rock formation.

This is a 6.6 – 9.5 mile out and back route with variable mileage due to weather conditions and potential trail closures. This hike has a 1,624 foot elevation gain with a steep grade. Dress in layers with a cold-weather hat and gloves or mittens. Wear good shoes. Consider bringing ice cleats and/or trekking poles as there is loose gravel that is sometimes combined with icy patches at this time of year. Be sure to bring snacks and plenty of water.

Getting to the peak is well worth the steep ascent as there are excellent views to the east and west. Be sure to register as conditions may change.
