We have a NOCO hike this month along the Hewlett Gulch trail in the Poudre Canyon. This is a magnificent trail in Roosevelt National Forest. The trail begins from the small parking area off Hewlett Road, where there is also a restroom. From here, the trail heads uphill as it winds its way alongside Gordon Creek. The first section of the trail has some shade, but the remainder is pretty exposed. The views are great both going up and coming back. In the spring, there are lots of blooming wildflowers.

This is a hike for more moderate hikers as it is 8.5 miles with an 1100 ft elevation gain. It is a multi-use trail that is used by hikers, runners and mountain bikers. We will walk up Hewlett Gulch and along the way we cross a few bridges and see some remnants of the High Park Fire from 2013. It is an out and back trail, and estimated hike duration is 3 – 4 hours. As always, be sure dress for the conditions with layers, bring adequate water and snacks, a hat and sunscreen, and if you use poles, bring them as well.

Post hike we will gather at Stodgy’s Brewing Company for more Camino talk.

If you are a new pilgrim leaving on Camino in 2026, be sure to request a “mini-shell” ceremony on the sign-up form! (We ask for a donation for your shell, to help defray our costs. Thank you for your generosity.)
Please be sure to sign up so we can update folks who register about conditions and plans.
