Hike approximately 4.5 to 5 miles roundtrip – over the Indian River Bridge and also explore Burton Island. The bridge is one of our only hills in the area! The views of the ocean and bay from the bridge are spectacular but it can be windy and chilly. Please dress warmly and wear shoes that can get muddy. There are a few muddy spots on Burton Island especially after rain.
Burton Island is located in the middle of the Rehoboth and Indian River Bays and is connected to the mainland via a hiking trail. It is a mix of a maritime forest and low-lying salt marsh. It has a mix of sand, dirt and hard surfaces.
We will meet at the South Inlet parking lot at Delaware Seashore State Park near the Big Chill Restaurant. There are porta-potties at the start and on our walk.
