This is a 3-mile, one and half hour walk, along the Volcanoes Trail on the westside of the Petroglyph National Monument. Enjoy vistas of Albuquerque, the Sandias, and unique geological features. There is a short spur where we can climb the Black Volcano. The well-marked loop trail is steep and rocky in a few spots so hiking poles are recommended. The total ascent over 3 miles is 339 feet. Since we will be on top of the Mesa there is very limited shade, so please bring sun protection such as a hat and/or sunglasses and water.

Meet at the Volcanoes Day Use Parking Lot and trailhead. There is ample parking and a pit toilet. The Volcanoes Day Use Area is just off Atrisco Vista Blvd, across from Double Eagle II Airport.
