I love this hike! The photo looks imposing, but we won’t be hiking all the way up there. That’s just one of the awe-inspiring views that never fail to impress me. Here’s a description: This scenic trail weaves through lush forests of ponderosa pine, pinon pine, and Douglas fir. There were plenty of wildflowers when I hiked it a week ago yesterday. It is rather rugged terrain, with an elevation gain of 1,272 feet. The round trip trail length is 4.2 miles. The estimated time is 3 hours. I like to spend some time on the rock overlook, but am amenable to hikers’ desires.

The trail is off of Tramway, onto Forest Service Road 333 and just beyond the La Luz Trailhead. Warning: The paved road ends and there’s a short drive on a dirt, rutted road.
Needs: Poles can be helpful on some of the inclines/declines on loose gravel. There’s some shade, but also sun. Water, of course! There are no toilet facilities. Snacks are always a nice treat at the top.
