DESCRIPTION: The area is primarily made up of loosely consolidated sandstone and dirt, which has allowed erosion to sculpt its environment throughout the millennia. The colors are striking: dazzling white veins pierce rock and soil in a landscape dominated by red, tan, and yellow tones.
The length of the hike is 5.3 miles with a 538 elevation gain. Allow 3 hours. There are some steep sections. Take the usual: hat, poles, layered clothing, and water.
Rancho de Chimayo would be a great place to re-fuel after the hike!
