AUGUST FULL MOON WALK in the PARK

The park is located between Spain and Montgomery just off of Morris. From Morris Street NE, turn east onto Osuna Road. Park towards the end of Osuna near the playground area. We will meet there to begin our walk.

This will be the first full moon walk Camino Amigos has scheduled, and possibly the first evening walk. It may feel a bit cooler in the evening for walking since the sun will be setting.

This is a Full Moon in Aquarius. It is also the Sturgeon Moon, whose name comes from the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain; this native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer, and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region. At one time, the lake sturgeon was quite abundant in late summer, though they are rarer today. Traditionally, each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred, not solely to the full Moon.

The walk:

The route we will traverse is about 2.72 miles. We will go around the park and surrounding area three times for that mileage. The elevation gain is 160 feet. You may want to apply mosquito repellant as they are out and about in Albuquerque this summer. Bring water! and snacks if desired. The walk is on sidewalks and pavement, and some gravel paths. The route should take about one hour, more time if there is some moon gazing along the way! The park closes at 10:00 PM.
