Albuquerque, NM: Albuquerque Chapter, Elena Gallegos Open Space Hike and Picnic

There will be two hike options available. Both options start together and participants can choose between two distances (3 miles or 5 miles) as we hike. Estimated hike times are 1 hour for the 3 mile hike and 1.5 hours for the 5 mile hike. There are some areas with technical terrain so we recommend trail shoes. The hikes are a good opportunity to train with trekking poles and backpack.

Gathering time is 9 a.m. with hikes beginning at 9:30 a.m. Potluck picnic will begin after the hikes at the shelter. Submarine sandwiches will be provided by George and Lorena. Please feel free to bring your favorite side dish or dessert to accompany the sandwiches. Submarine sandwich must be pre-ordered, so please RSVP by May 18th.

The picnic area is reserved for the day, so feel free to explore the open space throughout the day. The main trailhead at Elena Gallegos leads to Pino Trail (total of 9.4 miles out and back) and there are many other connecting trails of varying distances to enjoy.
