HIKE LEADER: SUZANNE BLAZIER

DESCRIPTION:

1. The walking route I will take you on first heads south from the Botanic Garden and past Tingley Beach. We will keep walking south, and will turn around at a designated spot so that when we return to the Botanic Garden, that portion of the walk will be about 10 km (6 miles).
We can either just take a quick restroom break and have a snack, or eat at the Shark Reef Cafe before heading out again.

2. The next portion of our walk will head north along the Bosque bike path to the Rio Grande Nature Center. We will take a short break at the Nature Center for bathrooms and a snack, and return to the Botanic Garden, for a total of 11 km.

That yields a total 21 km (or about 13 miles) of walking! If someone wants to participate only in just the first 10 km of walking, that is fine. We can always stop again at the Shark Reef Cafe after completing all 21 km.

No need for hiking poles. Dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water, snacks, a hat, and sunscreen.

There is adequate parking available in the Botanic Garden parking lot which is open from dawn to dusk. The Botanic Garden itself does not open until 9:00 AM, therefore there are no restrooms available until opening time.

Approximate time allowed for the walk depends on how fast or leisurely everyone is walking. Allow a minimum of 4.5 hours for the walking, not including breaks.

This walk is organized by Suzanne Blazier, author of Prancing in the Pyrénées, Sloshing Through Galicia: My Way Along the Camino Francés; and Camino Journal. Both are available on amazon.com or at Page1Books in Albuquerque.

Please remember that dogs are not allowed per National Protocol. Thanks for your understanding.
