Afton, VA: Shenandoah Valley, July 2025 Chapter Hike

Join us on Saturday, July 12, for one of the COOLEST hikes around: the Blue Ridge Tunnel! This is a COOL hike because it’s usually at least 10 degrees cooler inside the tunnel; it’s a COOL hike because tunnels are cool; it’s a COOL hike because we will go out to socialize afterwards with your favorite cold beverage at the Blue Mountain Brewery! 

Opened about four years ago, the nearly 170-year-old tunnel was the first of its kind when it was finished in 1858 and was used until replaced about 80 years ago. This is an easy 4.6 mile out-and-back, starting from the Afton Mountain trailhead, on the east side of the ridge. The tunnel is dark, so please bring headlamps or flashlights.
