DESCRIPTION: This hike is part of the Explore ABQ Series that will begin near and end at the Rail Yards Market. The Market is held each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., May to October, in Albuquerque.
We will meet at the intersection of 2nd St. and Atlantic Ave., N.W., across (west) from the Rail Yards. There is free parking at the Rail Yards Market and a free Bike Valet at the information booth. For more details on parking or the market: https://railyardsmarket.org/.
We will hike through the historic Barelas neighborhood to the National Hispanic Cultural Center. We will head south along the bosque trail, then enter the bosque to walk along the Rio Grande to the ABQ BioPark Zoo. Returning toward the Rail Yards, we will pass the Barelas Community Center which is one of the oldest centers in Albuquerque built between 1941-1942.
The hike is approximately 4.3 miles with a minimal elevation gain of 410 ft. The estimated time is 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on hikers’ pace over all. We don’t leave anyone behind!
Bring water, snacks, etc. for the hike and cash or credit cards for any purchases you would like to make at the market.
REMINDER: Please leave dogs at home per national protocol and insurance issues.
FACILITIES: WARNING – Restrooms are only available at the beginning and end of the hike at the Rail Yards Market. None are available during the hike other than at local businesses.
