Explore ABQ – Hike #1
Downtown Growers’ Market (Albuquerque Country Club, Rio Grande Bosque, and Tingley Beach)

DAY/DATE: Saturday, May 30
TIME: 8 a.m.
HOSTS: Lorena and George Rodriguez (Contact Lorena: 505-440-3069)
APPROXIMATE DISTANCE: 5.5 miles
DESCRIPTION: This hike is part of the Explore ABQ Series that will begin near and end at the Downtown Growers’ Market. The Market is held each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, April to November, at Robinson Park in Downtown Albuquerque.

We will meet in front of the Ex Novo Brewing Company located at 7th St. and Central Ave., N.W. There is limited street parking, parking meters, and paid parking lots near Ex Novo. The growers’ market also has a free bike valet. Check out the market’s website: https://www.downtowngrowers.org/ for additional details.

We will explore the Huning Castle neighborhood, often referred to as the Country Club Neighborhood with mature tree-lined streets. We will continue to the Albuquerque Country Club, enter the bosque for views of the Rio Grande, traverse Tingley Beach, and return to Robinson Park, one city block west of the starting point. Tingley Beach has three stocked fishing ponds and is the home to many ducks and geese.

The hike is approximately 5.5 miles with a minimal elevation gain of 417 ft. The estimated time is 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on hikers’ pace over all. We don’t leave anyone behind!
Bring water, snacks, etc. for the hike and cash or credit cards for any purchases you would like to make at the market. Pack a picnic blanket and leave it in the car for some post-hike relaxation at the market.

REMINDER: Please leave dogs at home per national protocol and insurance issues.
FACILITIES: Porta potties are located at Robinson Park and at Tingley Beach.
