Phoenix AZ: Valley of the Sun Chapter, South Mountain Sundown Hike

This is a 5K- Easy to Moderate along a mix of fire road and desert trail

Join this conversational pace walk on the East side of South Mountain. We will walk on the Nation Trail (Dirt Path) then connect with Beverly Canyon to Beacon Hill Trail and then finish on Pima Canyon Loop Trail. Ideally we are along a ridge to see a beautiful sunset, however this trail also means that the hike will be mostly in the shade since the sun goes behind this end of South Mountain well before it sets on the Valley.

These trails are easy to moderate but bring poles to help warn the rattle snakes that we are coming and headlamps or flashlights to spot them. This is the habitat for rattlesnakes so wear long pants in addition to being watchful. This trail minimizes sandy washes but the snakes have been seen throughout the mountain.

Bring something to add to a charcuterie board or an appetizer and/or your own vino for after the hike social.
