We cordially invite all first time pilgrims (and those who wish to celebrate them) to participate. The pilgrim shell ceremony is an age-old tradition that is practiced all over the world. Pilgrims will be presented with a scallop shell to wear on their backpack, identifying them to all they meet as fellow pilgrims. If you are planning to walk the Camino for the first time this year and would like to receive a shell at the Ceremony, please request a shell.
Pilgrims will receive the traditional blessing to help prepare the mind, body, and spirit for the journey from Father Dave Dufresne, a fellow pilgrim with an interesting journey.
Everyone is welcome to attend — the event is not limited to those receiving shells. Per tradition, we will also have a pre-ceremony hike for those who want to come early. Stay tuned for details.
Meeting Point: Fort Hunt Park, 8999 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22308.
