Winter Solstice Walk in the Bosque
WHEN: Sunday, December 21st
TIME: 9:30 AM Montaño Rd. NW,
WHERE: Pueblo Montaño Picnic Area and Trailhead
The parking area is on the south side of Montaño Rd. just east of Coors, west of the Rio Grande.
HOST: Suzanne Blazier
The walking route I will take you on is three miles round-trip. This walk is on gravel and dirt pathways with some walking on sand near the Rio Grande. We will walk towards the Bosque School, enter the bosque, walk under the canopy of cottonwoods, and veer east at times to see three different views of the Rio Grande. When we return, we will walk through the Chainsaw Sculpture Garden.
***There is a restroom facility at this trailhead.
No need for hiking poles unless you require them for mobility. Elevation gain is 77 feet. Dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water, snacks if desired, a hat, and sunscreen.
Carpool to Pueblo Montaño Trailhead if you like. The parking lot is not huge.
Approximate time allowed for the walk depends on how fast or leisurely everyone is walking and how long we want to hang out by the river. It should be at least a one-hour fifteen-minute walk.
***After the walk, let’s meet over at Dave’s Valley Grill, 6601 4th St. NW, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, for brunch.
