The NYC Chapter of the American Pilgrims on the Camino (APOC) will continue walking in Hudson Valley this fall. Join your fellow pilgrims for an approximately 6-mile hike (round trip) on the grounds of Bear Mountain State Park and surrounding area. https://parks.ny.gov/parks/bearmountain/

Points of interest during this Caminito are Hessian Lake, Trailside Museums and Zoo, Fort Clinton, Bear Mountain Bridge, Popolopen Suspension Bridge and Fort Montgomery Museum.

What to bring:

Day hike essentials such as water, juice, Gatorade, snacks, lunch, insect repellent, sun hat, sunblock, walking stick, comfortable walking shoes and cash.

Reminders: Hiker’s Café entrance is located on the side of the building before entering the parking lot. Since pets are not allowed inside the zoo- this is a human only Caminito. WC facilities will be available around Bear Mountain State Park grounds and at Fort Montgomery. Please exercise caution during as the trail may be wet, muddy and slippery at times. Some drop-offs do not have guardrails installed. Always stay hydrated and walk only on the designated path or trail. Pilgrims with mobility challenges may need to reconsider their physical participation for the 2nd half of this activity.

Terrain: combination of concrete/asphalt/dirt/gravel/loose stones

Difficulty: easy to moderate

Elevation: ~ 100 feet of steep descent and ascent

Hike Leader: Ana Esteban Ana is a peregrina who earned her “compostela” hiking the Camino Frances from O’Cebreiro to Santiago.
