The hike is a counter-clockwise loop that begins at the Trailhead near the Visitors Center, via Moonlight Trail, San Tan, Hedgehog cutoff back to San Tan, and return to the Trailhead. San Tan Park offers beautiful vistas and wide trails that are relatively smooth and suitable for great conversations about the Camino. The walk would be reminiscent of the profile of a typical day from Sarria to Santiago in regards to elevation.
The trails within the San Tan Mountain Regional Park offer a unique perspective of the lower Sonoran Desert with wonderful wildlife, plant-life and scenic mountain views. While this trail is relatively flat, the area offers many connected trails of different elevations making it a great training spot for nearby pilgrims and worth the drive for those wanting to see another part of the Valley.
There will be coffee and ‘Tarta de Santiago’ (made by your hike leader) for those who indicate they are staying after the hike for more conversation. Please indicate when you register if you are staying for coffee (so that we make enough without wasting any).
