The walking route I will take you on is approximately 4.3 miles in length. This walk is on gravel and dirt pathways through wildlife habitats, an active farming area, and a bit on city streets. It is a slightly different route than in previous years.
Description: We will wind through Los Poblanos Fields, go along the irrigation ditches, and through Grecian Park. Continue on a few city streets to wind over to Harnett Park, circle around the space for the Grower’s Market on Rio Grande, and back to the Los Poblanos Fields.
There is a Porta Potty in the parking lot, one in the community garden, and a restroom in the building where the Los Ranchos Growers’ Market meets. To my knowledge, there is no growers’ market there that day, but the restroom is always open when I’ve been there.
No need for hiking poles. Elevation gain is 76 feet. Dress appropriately for the weather. Bring water, snacks if desired, a hat, and sunscreen.
Carpool to Los Poblanos if you like. Typically there is adequate parking available in a large parking area.
Approximate time allowed for the walk depends on how fast or leisurely everyone is walking. Allow a minimum of 1 3/4 hours.
After the walk, let’s meet over at Dave’s Valley Grill, 6601 4th St. NW, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, for brunch.
