Join us on Holy Thursday, April 17 as we make our way to the Santuario de Chimayo for a Holy Week Pilgrimage. Most people hike this route on Good Friday; we choose to hike Holy Thursday because it is less congested and there is less traffic. Richard Rindone will be in the support vehicle should anyone need a break or a ride.

We will meet at the Sacred Heart Nambe Catholic Church between 8:30 and 9:00 and walk from there. Map link to the church:

It is a moderate 8.2 miles from the church to the Santuario – there are three hills, but not very steep. Pack a lunch, as well as snacks and plenty of water.

The Santuario is open, but most of the restaurants are closed. In the past, the weather has been mild and very little wind—we’ll hope for good weather again.

The walk to Chimayo is an excellent introduction to the Camino experience and an opportunity to make a trial walk with your backpack – or not, as you wish! Richard will meet us at the Santuario with his SUV to drive us back to Nambe. However, depending on the number of people walking, we will be asking for volunteers to take one or more cars up to the Santuario before the Pilgrimage, so we can all have a ride back.

In the past, the pilgrimage has been supported by extra law enforcement and port-a-potties along the way as it is a Catholic Church sanctioned affair.

It is essential for everyone to be prepared with clothing, gear, and shoes suited for hiking, plenty of water, and food.
