When I first walked this hike I thought of you all – a little of the Portuguese, a little of the Frances – but all Tucson. So here is the scoop – it is an out and back which starts in the center of Summerhaven. Total distance is just shy of 6 miles with 1200 ft of elevation gain under a 90% tree cover. The trail is not rocky by Mt. Lemmon standards and with a relatively even slope which ends with a lovely view of the city from the top of the ski run, so bring your binoculars! We will start walking at 8:00am. The meeting point is at the corner of Sabino Canyon Park and Turkey Run Rd., the major intersection in Summerhaven (the village at the top of Mt. Lemmon), on the SW corner is the Community Center, just south of there is ample parking. There is a restaurant on the SE side of the intersection, which we might enjoy post-hike. We will group up at the corner then walk up Turkey Trot Rd for about .75 miles, which dead ends into the Aspen Draw Trail which will take us up to the top of the ski run and back down again. A very lovely walk with a nice respite at the Sawmill Restaurant afterwards.
Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen, any medications you might require and of course your best self. Please RSVP. If you are interested in carpooling, email me.
Looking forward to walking with you – Sharon
