Maryland Heights, MO: St. Louis Chapter, Summer Solstice Hike at Creve Coeur Lake + Sunset Picnic

HIKE DESCRIPTION
We will park and meet at Tremayne Shelter (13725 Marine Ave, Maryland Heights, MO 63043)
where we will make introductions. Ample parking is available here.

We will then walk the 5.7 mile loop trail around Creve Coeur Lake. This is generally considered an easy route, mostly flat with paved and unpaved surfaces and takes about 1 h 45 min to complete (slightly longer depending on group size).

AFTER-HIKE PICNIC
Following our hike, we will return to Tremayne Shelter for a picnic dinner where pilgrims can continue to ask Camino/pilgrimage questions while we take in the sunset on the northern hemisphere’s longest day of the year. Each pilgrim is responsible for bringing their own picnic meal; this is not a potluck picnic. Pilgrims may also consider bringing a pop-up lawn chair for comfortable seating in case the pavilion is occupied by other parkgoers. There is also a beach area for anyone who wants to bring a blanket for picnic lounging.

PARK INFORMATION
Creve Coeur Park was St. Louis County’s first established park and is the county’s largest park at 2,114 acres. The park includes the 320-acre Creve Coeur Lake, which is an oxbow lake formed when a tight curve of the Missouri River was cut off and separated from the main channel. Creve Coeur dates back to French settlers and means, “damaged heart”. Modern restroom facilities are located near Tremayne Shelter.
