Liberty Lake, WA: Spokane Chapter, Liberty Creek and Edith Hanson Trail Loop Hike

The hike is listed as 8.5 miles with 1,374 feet elevation gain. All Trails calls it “moderate” but some may feel it is “difficult.” These stats are from the beginning of the trailhead which is in the campground. When you include walking from the parking lot, it’s more like 9.5 miles. Plan for around 4-4.5 hours hiking with the group. The trail starts out fairly flat and wide and then once we hit the cedar grove it becomes a more narrow hiking trail. From the peak back down the trail widens again. From a preview hike a few days ago, the trail was found to be in good condition with three trees down on the trail: one on the switchbacks and one just past the lake viewpoint, both of which are easy to get over. The BIG one is just past the waterfall…people have forged a path to the right of it, and we didn’t have a problem getting by. The back side down the trail is muddy in a few places, but that is pretty normal for this time of year. The water is really flowing…beautiful!

There are bathrooms near the trailhead; by parking in the first lot you walk by them. Porta potties are available if the main restrooms are still locked. Entry fee is $2 per person. Look for our blue Camino flag to find our group.

Please review the weather forecast prior to attending as higher temperatures are predicted as of a week out. While there are shaded areas and we will be starting out early in the day, it is recommended to wear sunscreen and/or head coverings and bring plenty of water and snacks.
