Phoenix, AZ: Valley of the Sun Chapter, Deem Hills Trail Hike

HIKE DESCRIPTION – 6 miles MODERATE with option to go to saddle

East on the Circumference Trail (counterclockwise) for 1.7 mi.
Take the Palisade Trail 0.75 mi to the Basalt Trail
Take the Basalt Trail 0.22 mi to the saddle.
Here we have an option:
For those who don’t mind the climb and want the views, take the Ridgeline Trail to the top, then back down the switchbacks to the Circumference Trail.
OR continue down the Basalt Trail to the Circumference Trail.
Continue counterclockwise around the Circumference Trail back to the Trail Head/Parking Lot.
If we take the Ridgeline Trail, there is a good view and an opportunity to stop and rest for a bit at the top, for a total distance of about 6 miles with excellent views of the Phoenix area, the Hedgepeth Hills to the south, and the Hieroglyphic and Bradshaw Mountains to the north.

Bring: Sturdy walking shoes, plenty of water, and a snack if desired. Walking poles could be useful to navigate steep section of climb & descent with some loose rocks. No dogs due to chapter liability.

There are restrooms and drinking water at the trailhead.

Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well.
