HIKE & PARK DESCRIPTION
We will take a short connecting trail from the West Tyson County Park Trailhead before starting Chubb Trail. Chubb Trail is a 6.5 mile linear trail — 13 miles out and back. We will only hike a portion of this trail. We’ll plan to hike for about 3 hours total.
Chubb Trail may be challenging for some hikers, traversing some steep hills. Once off hilly areas, you come into a vast river bottom area.
The whole park includes rugged wooded uplands which typify Ozark beauty, steep bluffs, flood plain, and a portion of the Meramec River.

LOGISTICS
PARKING — Lower parking lot of West Tyson County Park. This is the parking lot to the right after you enter the park. The lower level parking lot has limited parking. The road continues past the parking lot and leads to a shelter and there’s parking for only a few cars. If parking is full, you may need to turn around and park along the approach road.
GATHERING SPOT — There’s a giant sign that reads “Flint Quarry Trailhead • Chinkapin Trailhead” next to the parking lot. Our group will meet just past the gate leading to those trailheads, next to the lower parking lot. Look for an elevated area with some picnic benches.
DIRECTIONS — We will start our hike at the West Tyson County Park trailhead, not the Lone Elk Park trailhead. If using your phone’s map app, type in “West Tyson County Park Trailhead” — this is Exit 266/Lewis Road off I-44. (Do NOT enter “Chubb Trail” into the map search, as it likely will send you to the Lone Elk Park trailhead.)
Traveling west on I-44 from Highway 141:
- Exit 266/Lewis Rd
- Turn RIGHT
- Drive 100 yards to park entrance
- Turn RIGHT into Park
- Turn RIGHT into lower parking lot

PARK RESOURCES
RESTROOM facilities (not just porta potties) are available near the lower level parking lot.
