Walk, Wine and Books
Join your fellow pilgrim friends in San Marcos for a 5-mile flat walk followed by wine tasting at Sunshine Mountain Vineyard.

Date: Saturday, April 24, 2021, 9:15am to 1pm

Location: Walnut Grove Park, 1950 Sycamore Drive, San Marcos, CA 92069

Parking: Park near the Williams Barn on the back side of the park. Follow signs to Heritage Park Museum. We’ll meet in front of the bathroom building in between the barn and the heritage museum.

Route description: We’ll follow the natural horse paths around the park and surrounding neighborhoods. This is a 95% flat walk, with one leisurely incline at the midpoint. No rocks, hills or asphalt (unless you prefer to walk on the paved trail adjacent to the dirt ones).

Wine: After the walk, we’ll take a 3-minute drive to Sunshine Mountain Vineyard. Offering sweeping hilltop views and tasty wine and appetizers, the winery is a hidden neighborhood gem with a variety of outdoor seating areas to take in the view. If you can’t make the walk but would like to join your pilgrim friends for a glass of wine, we’ll be there right at noon when they open.

Books: Did you know that the San Diego chapter of American Pilgrims has a lending library of Camino-related books? We’ll have them on hand at the winery should you wish to borrow or contribute a Camino book. Karin Kiser will also have copies available of her newly released book, Unplug Your Robot: The Secret to Lasting Happiness.
