Tarrytown, NY: New York City Chapter, Old Croton Aqueduct Caminito, Part 2

Join us for an early fall walk along the Old Croton Aqueduct in Westchester County on Saturday, October 2. Built between 1837-1842, the aqueduct carried water from the Croton River to Manhattan and was in use until 1955. Now this linear park originates at the Croton Dam and runs 26 miles to the Bronx. We’ll undertake a section of the route, starting in Tarrytown. Some options to end Saturday’s walk and return to NYC via Metro-North are Dobbs Ferry (5 miles), Greystone (8 miles), or Yonkers (10 miles), and also via subway at the 242nd St. subway station (15 miles) – it’s your choice. For more options consult the Hudson Line weekend schedule. The path is generally shaded, level, and smooth, but unpaved. There are many street crossings in the towns we will walk through.

For those taking Metro-North from Grand Central or points south: the 9:45 express train from Grand Central arrives in Tarrytown at 10:25. Drivers will find information about parking in Tarrytown here: https://www.tarrytowngov.com/village-parking. We will all meet just outside the station on the Depot Plaza side (not the river side) right after the train’s arrival and start our walk from there. Our plan is to start walking by 10:45.

What to bring: Day hike essentials: water, your lunch & snacks, insect repellent, sun hat/sunblock, rain gear, comfortable walking shoes & layers for being out most of the day.
