Join the Chapter as we consider pilgrimage routes other than the francés and portugués! Assuming that the world opens up again in 2022, the main Camino routes will most likely be very busy as folks restart their pilgrimages after laying dormant for so long due to COVID-19. Perhaps consider experiencing another route? In this presentation we'll take a look at two: the Ruta de Madrid—described by veteran pilgrims, Mike and Ruth Hoffman And the Iona Abbey pilgrimage route in Scotland, described by Chris Petty.
Chris visited Iona in 2018 and walked the pilgrimage around the Isle of Iona. It is a spiritual walk that follows sites from St. Columba (who brought Christianity to Scotland in 563 CE) to more modern sites that consider the struggle for justice and peace in today’s world. From Iona, one can then embark on the St. Columba/St. Andrew Way, a 261-mile route across Scotland to St. Andrews. She’ll share highlights of her Iona experience. Mike and Ruth Hoffman have done several Caminos in Spain since 2012. In April of 2018 they walked the Camino de Madrid. In many ways it is their favorite. They saw only five other pilgrims in the 15 days, walking directly from old town Madrid, over the high Sierra de Guadarrama (which still had three feet of snow on the trail!), and then across the plains through pine forest and wheat fields, ending in Sahagun. They will share pictures, experiences and a little advice. This event will be password protected. Send us an RSVP and we'll reply with the password the day before the event! Note that if you contact us within the two hours prior to the event, we may not be able to get the login credentials to you. What you need to know: We will not be recording Chapter Zoom events. |
