The Mesquite Canyon Trail is in the White Mountains Regional Park. We’ll start at the Ramada #7 parking lot (see Location above). The 750-ft. climb up to the high point saddle is about 1.5 miles on a well-maintained trail. There are a few places with loose rocks, but nothing technical. We can stop periodically on the climb up as needed. After the saddle, we will hike another mile or so to the intersection with the Willow Canyon Trail, stop for snack, and return the way we came.

This is a moderately difficult trail because of the climb out from the trailhead. After that just some gentle ups and downs. If you use hiking poles, we suggest you bring them.

There is plenty of wildlife in the White Mountains, especially as you get further in. Keep your eyes open for deer and the occasional rattlesnake if it’s warm.

There are some great views of the valley from the highest point at the saddle.

Restrooms and water are available near the TH, but no shade at the TH or on the trail.

BRING: Sturdy walking shoes, water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, if desired. Walking sticks are not required, but suggested.

We are balancing our desires to get out and hike with the continued guidance from the CDC and the American Pilgrims on the Camino organization. Therefore, our hiking group shall not exceed 10 people. If more than ten people show up, we will split into two groups.

  • Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well.
  • If you are not vaccinated, bring face coverings, like masks or buff/bandanas, to wear upon arrival at the trailhead.

If running late day of hike, call the hike leader.
