You’ve heard of the Crosstown Trail, the epic trail that connects Candlestick Point in the southeast corner of San Francisco to Lands End in the northwest. But have you heard about its new companion, the Double Cross Trail, that goes from Fort Funston in the southwest to Pier 23 on the Embarcadero in the northeast? Well, here’s your chance to try both! We’ve put together a combination route that starts from the Glen Park BART station and heads up to Twin Peaks on the Crosstown, then jumps onto the Double Cross and meanders over to Alamo Square and through Nob Hill, Chinatown and North Beach before descending the Greenwich Steps to Levi’s Plaza. From there, it continues south to the Embarcadero station for a complete BART-to-BART adventure.

Schedule: Meet us at 9:30 AM outside the entrance to the Glen Park BART station. We’ll have lunch at Alamo Square by the Painted Ladies and expect to arrive at the Embarcadero station by 4:00 PM.

Level of Difficulty: Moderately difficult. Total mileage is about 10 miles with approximately 1,300 feet of elevation gain. There are plenty of hills and staircases (it is San Francisco, after all) to make this a good training opportunity though it’s a good idea to have recent experience with this type of terrain.

Advance online registration is required. Click the “Register” button to sign up. Space is limited. Please register if/when you are certain you can attend. Thank you!

Cancellation: Please email us at so we can offer your space to someone else.

Getting There: Easy! Take BART to the Glen Park station. If you drive, find a space on the streets in the Glen Park neighborhood (Wilder and Arlington Streets are good bets). Double check signs for any restrictions. (Glen Park BART station has a small lot, but there is a 5-hour limit.)

Carpooling: On the registration form is a link to an online “Carpool Bulletin Board” to post a message if you need a ride or can give one.

What to Bring: Water, snacks, a bag lunch and sun protection. A light jacket/dress in layers. Hiking poles will be helpful (don’t forget the rubber tips). Clipper for the BART rides.

Leaders: Adelina Aramburo and Guy Joaquin

The Ruff Stuff: For insurance purposes, we are unable to welcome dogs, except service animals, at our events.
