This is the 1st of four long hikes and provides a mix of terrain and a little bit of elevation to simulate a typical easy day on the Camino (like leaving Leon). We will begin walking from Walmart on 24th Street to the Highline Canal, along Baseline Rd with an optional coffee stop at Human Bean. We will then proceed to the Javelina Trailhead and walk to the Pima Canyon Trailhead via Beverly Canyon and Pima Loop. There is a bathroom about 5 miles in and we will refill aqua or use servicio. We will continue along the Pima Canyon Road to Beverly Canyon and then retrace our steps. There are a few rocky sections on Beverly Canyon but the rest of the walk is urban canal and wide gravel fire road with gentle elevation gains.

Bring: Poles, hat, plenty of water (at least 2 Liters recommended), sunscreen, money for cafe con leche at the Human Bean and a snack. If you would like a map, email tina.strickler@gmail.com.

The Farm at South Mountain is a nice place for lunch after the hike.

Facilities: Use the bathrooms inside of Walmart before 6:15. Restrooms and potable water available at the 1/2 way point.

Please stay home if you are feeling sick. No dogs due to chapter liability. All hikes are lead by volunteers and donations are appreciated to support chapter activities (shell ceremonies, marketing, etc.)

*If we are blessed with a cool spell and/or cloud cover, we can move the start time 30-60 min later and participants will be notified a day prior.
