This hike will be comparable to the section of the Camino Francés leaving Castrojeriz and walking to the pilgrim’s monument at the top of Alto de Mostelares.

It is a 4.5-miles out and back hike featuring a beautiful canyon. We will hike Box Canyon to Las Lomitas to Kiwanis and back. The beginning is easy and the last mile is rated difficult due to elevation gain (450 ft) and rocky terrain. For hikers interested in more of a challenge, your guide will point out alternative hikes from this parking lot to incorporate for longer distance or more elevation gain (ex: Holbert, Ranger, Telegraph, Alta & National Trails). Allow 2 – 2.5 hours.

BRING: Sturdy walking shoes, water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, if desired. Walking sticks are not required, but might be helpful. Bring a personalized first aid kit, which may include one day’s medications and be prepared to pack out any trailside rest stops.

We are balancing our desires to get out and hike with the continued guidance from the CDC and the American Pilgrims on the Camino organization. Therefore, our hiking group shall not exceed 10 people. If more than 10 people show up, we will split into two groups.

Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well. If you are not vaccinated, bring face coverings, like masks or buff/bandanas, to wear upon arrival at the trailhead.
