The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the College of Arts And Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham presents: “God’s Grace and the Gold Rush: Caring for Pilgrims in the Age of Cheap Tourism”, a talk by Rebekah Scott, expat resident on the Camino francés and the author of “A Furnace Full of God” and other books.

A generous welcome to all pilgrims regardless of their ability to pay makes the Camino de Santiago unique in the world… but what happens when a trail served by a fragile non-profit network is “discovered” by the “spiritual tourism” industry? “God’s Grace and The Gold Rush” will talk about the collision of Consumerism and Christianity happening today on The Way, and the future of pilgrim hospitality in Spain.
