Walk to Chimayo on Thursday, April 14, 8:30 am from Nambe Church

Join Richard and Pauline Rindone and other pilgrims next week on Holy Thursday, April 14. Most people walk on Good Friday – we choose to walk on Holy Thursday because there is less traffic.

Meet at the Nambe Catholic Church at 8:30 am We will depart by 9:00 am to walk the 8.2 miles to the Santuario – there are three hills, but they are not very steep.

Pack a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. The Santuario will be open, but most of the restaurants will not be. We hope for good weather, but be prepared for wind, heat, or cold!

This walk to the most visited pilgrimage site in the United States is an excellent introduction to the Camino experience and an opportunity to try out your Camino gear (boots, poles, pack, etc.).

Richard will meet us at the Santuario with his SUV to drive us back to Nambe; however, depending on the number of people walking, we will ask volunteers to take one or more cars up to the Santuario.

In the past, the pilgrimage has been supported by extra law enforcement and porta-potties along the way. We are not sure whether that will happen this year.

Please respond so we know how many will be coming, and let us know if you are coming from Albuquerque or Santa Fe and would like to carpool. Estimate close to 1/1/2 hours to drive to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe from Albuquerque. You will see the church on the right side of the road, and there is a large parking lot behind it.
