Come join novice and experienced pilgrims for this 4.1 lollipop (out and back with a loop at the farthest end) walk. Expect views of the mountains while walking alongside a series of ponds that are a remnant of gravel mining in the area. Birds are abundant and we might even spot a bald eagle. We will pass the ruins of Strauss Cabin, one of the oldest cabins in the area. There is no elevation gain and most of the trail is dirt-packed. There is a restroom at the trailhead and an outhouse at the start and end of the lollipop loop. Dress in layers for cooler, winter temperatures, including a knit cap and/or hood with mittens and/or gloves. It might be breezy or windy, especially around the largest pond where there are fewer trees to slow the wind. Bring water. And you may want your Ice-trekkers or YakTrax if it is snowy or icy….And if you typically use poles, bring them too!
Arapahoe Bend Trails trailhead at Harmony Transfer Center, 4300 East Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO. There are three trailheads. We will meet at the south eastern one in the back of the large lot with ample parking due to local transit and Groome Transport. See Map here.
