We will take our annual hike along a section of the High Line Canal in Aurora and walk with a loop through Fairmount Cemetery—Denver’s most historic cemetery. Leslie Mitchell has walked Fairmount Cemetery with Gene McCullough and gleaned from his historical knowledge of the cemetery. Although this section of the High Line goes through the city, it is tranquil and pleasant. The trail is mainly flat and essentially asphalt, with some areas of concrete.
Fairmount Cemetery is the final resting place of many of Denver’s historic residents. We will make a loop through the cemetery and visit several of the historic residents prior to returning back to the High Line Canal and back to our cars.
We will meet along the west side of the parking lot of Lotus School (across from Expo Park) at 11001 East Alameda Avenue, Aurora 80012. Map is here:
If you are a new pilgrim and plan to walk the Camino this fall or winter, request a “mini-shell” ceremony to be given on the hike! (If you are planning to walk your first Camino in Spring or later of 2023, you may want to wait and sign-up for our “official” Shell Ceremony that we plan for the end of February or beginning of March in 2023!)
No dogs allowed, per American Pilgrims policy.
