This is a moderate 6-mile loop hike in the Superstition Wilderness. We will pass Hackberry Spring and enjoy the views through the canyon and up into Garden Valley. With an overall elevation gain of 560’, there are a few rocky descents and a short climb up to Garden Valley.
The trail is in fair condition due to the fires and flooding in the last Monsoon season. Loose rock and brushy vegetation is frequent along the trail. There are several places for shade but no potable water. The hike should last about 3 hours. There are toilets at the trail head, parking is plentiful. In general while hiking in the Superstition Wilderness, be mindful of cactus, reptiles, insects (bug spray always a good idea).
BRING: Sturdy walking shoes, water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks if desired. Walking sticks are not required, but recommended.
We are balancing our desires to get out and hike with the continued guidance from the CDC and the American Pilgrims on the Camino organization. Therefore, our hiking group shall not exceed 10 people. If more than 10 people sign up, we will break into two groups.
• Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well.
• If you are not vaccinated, bring face coverings, like masks or buff/bandanas, to wear upon arrival at the Trail Head.
If running late day of hike, call/text your hike leader.
